George Clooney
Venice Film Festival

On the opening night of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, George Clooney stepped onto the Lido to receive the festival’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. The honour marked a long relationship with Venice, where he has been coming for decades and has helped bring several films to its screens.

He arrived in a classic black tuxedo, a pleated white shirt and a black bow tie. Beside him, Amal Clooney returned to the carpet in a floor-length black gown, with a fitted silhouette and densely ruched fabric. The pair kept to a tonal palette, and their coordinated looks made the moment feel like old Hollywood.

Clooney took his time with the photographers, posing with the Golden Lion and even picking up a photographer’s camera at one point, a playful turn that turned the usual cameras-on-him routine around. Between poses, the couple shared a tender moment that became one of the sweetest of the evening. The ceremony itself was an occasion for Clooney to pay tribute to his wife, who was given the spotlight in his own speech.

Through Patrick Hagot’s lens, the evening is captured with the warmth and precision that define the best red-carpet photography: a true great, a hero, a partner, and a night that belonged to both of them.
